This image was taken on a very clear, sunny day on a lake in Maplewood State Park. The water reflected the fall colors surrounding the lake and the ripples of the water created their own shapes of colors. This image is pure except for cropping and a small amount of burning. I wanted to make permanent the colors of the day and the water's interpretation of these colors.

Old Moorhead, Minnesota
This is an old, out-of-use idustrial building in Moorhead next to the Red River. I cropped in close to the edges to make shapes with the negative space and sort of mirror the positive shapes of the building. I wanted to convey an old rustic with the color.
Brooklyn Street Art, New York City
I was walking through the streets in the DUMBO area of Brooklyn and came across a few works of art on the sides of old buildings. It made the area quite interesting and colorful even though much of it was very run-down.

Theatrical Central Park, New York
This is an older building in Central Park. A large circular fountain and pond are in the background. I came upon this scene and was struck by the way the arch framed these two performing people; one is kneeling down playing a violin and the other standing; I believe they were reenacting scenes from a play.

Flowers, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, New York City
This photograph of flowers is my favorite one taken from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. There were gorgeous deep red, satin white, and flush pink roses surrounding it; but these flowers had a fun-loving type of beauty. They are not so intense as roses. This photograph also shows a bud just starting to come out and a few dead ones that have lost all their petals but still manage to be intricate and colorful; it shows the span of its life.

Life Untitled
This shot was taken through a car windshield. We were driving back to I-94 from Maplewood State Park; it was all hill, open fields, and agriculture with spots of lone trees as far as the eye could see. This particular scene silouetted against the sun had taken me by surprise and I just whipped out my camera and shot. Going down that lonely road, this tree was like a guardian of the path.

Caffeinated Music
I took this picture while my mother played the piano for my grandmother; this was her coffee. As I stared, listening to the music, I noticed the similarities in color between the two very different objects. As I listened, I heard the energy behind the notes, the energy indirectly coming from the coffee she was drinking. In a way, the music had taken in the caffeine through her.

Chloe and Faith
Chloe (right) and Faith being goofy. I did a shoot with them for a class assignment on photographing kids. This particular one showed their personalities well.

Love at the Playground, Duluth, MN
This heart and the initials were carved into the wood of one of the pillars on this all-wood playground in Duluth. Those are the best kind of playgrounds I think. This heart and initials holds the same kind of old-school sentiment as wood playgrounds seem to have. Kids can meet new friends on the playground, first boyfriends, first "loves". Great memories are created on the playground and "A" and "R" decided to carve their memories in permanence.
